such as Port-au-Prince
and Jacmel.
In the beautiful Caribbean, The island shared
by both Haiti
and the
Dominican republic is called Hispaniola.
Ayiti covers about 10,714 square miles and is divided in 9 departments. The capital, Port-au-Prince, is located in the west part of the land.
In the North part, we find the historical city called Cap Haitien, host to what is often seen as one of the world's wonders: La Citadelle Laferriere.
The capital is where most of Haiti's economic activities are centered.
A lot of Haitian citizens move to Port-au-prince to get a better living. These hardworking people fill the market place of the downtown area, hoping to compete with a few big businesses.
The capital is home to the National palace and the central park called Champs de Mars which is the ending route for Carnival street parades.
The January 2010 earthquake left the capital in ruines and reconstruction is needed for the major administrative buildings.
